When a beloved house cat passed away after a long, humble life on a farm, he found himself standing before the gates of heaven. As the pearly gates swung open, he was greeted by none other than God Himself.
“You’ve been a good cat for many years,” God said warmly. “You’ve shown patience, resilience, and loyalty. Because of that, anything your heart desires is yours. Just say the word.”
The cat, still processing his surroundings, thought for a moment and then spoke. “Well, I spent my entire life with a loving but poor family on a small farm. It wasn’t easy. I always had to sleep on cold, hard wooden floors.”
God gave a gentle nod. “Say no more.”
Just like that, a luxurious, oversized fluffy pillow appeared beside the cat. It looked softer than clouds and cozier than anything he had ever imagined. The cat immediately curled up on it, purred deeply, and drifted off into the most peaceful nap of his nine lives.
Not long after that, a group of six mice met the same fate and arrived at the gates of heaven. Nervous but curious, they scurried forward and were greeted by God, just like the cat had been.
“You too have lived difficult lives,” God said kindly. “Heaven is a place of rest and reward. Whatever you desire, you shall receive.”
The mice, looking a bit ragged from a lifetime of being chased, didn’t hesitate. One stepped forward and spoke on behalf of the group.
“We’ve spent our lives running—running from cats, from dogs, even from humans with brooms! We’ve barely had a moment’s rest. If we could just have a pair of roller skates, life would be so much easier. We’d finally get a break from all the running.”
God smiled. “Say no more.”
In an instant, each mouse was fitted with a shiny pair of custom-designed, tiny roller skates—perfectly snug and incredibly fast. The mice squealed with delight, zooming around the golden streets of heaven like kids in a candy store.
A week went by. Curious to see how everyone was settling in, God decided to check in on the cat. He found him stretched out in the sun, belly up, snoozing deeply on his magnificent pillow.
With a soft touch, God woke him. “Hey there, how are you doing? Are you happy here?”
The cat slowly opened his eyes, let out a long, satisfied yawn, stretched his legs, and looked up at God.
“Oh, I’ve never been happier in my life,” the cat purred. “The pillow is heavenly, the sun is always shining, and the peace and quiet are exactly what I’ve always wanted.”
Then, with a glimmer in his eye, the cat added, “And those little Meals on Wheels you keep sending me every day? Absolute perfection!”
God paused. Meals on Wheels?
Then it hit Him.
He had unintentionally turned the roller-skating mice into the cat’s new gourmet delivery service.
And the cat? He couldn’t be more content.
